About

This blog is called Infrastructure Never Sleeps and is written by me, Chris Halstead.

I have been working in technology since the early 1990s, starting out as a programmer/analyst in the U.S. Army writing JCL and COBOL for an IBM 4381-based CTASC-I system. The bulk of my career since then has been spent in the technology infrastructure space - engineering, deploying, and maintaining servers, storage, and networking gear, or leading teams that do so. Over the span of my career I’ve also spent time writing software in C/C++, Perl, Java, and Python, building automation systems, contributing to systems architecture, and otherwise helping to solve difficult technology problems. Up until early 2024 I led technology teams in progressively larger roles, culminating in my tenure as Vice President, Infrastructure & Cloud Services at Starbucks Coffee Company. I retired from Starbucks in March of 2024, and am now a Chief Technology Advisor at St. Louis-based World Wide Technology (WWT), focusing on retail sector clients and the Infrastructure, Cloud, and Data spaces. Prior to Starbucks and WWT (and after eight years in the Army), I held both individual contributor and leadership positions at John H. Harland Co., Delta Air Lines, Amazon, and SourceLabs.

A more detailed listing of my previous roles and responsibilities is available through my LinkedIn profile, or via my resume.

If you wish to contact me, I can be reached through any of the methods in the sidebar.
